Lake Oswego's combination of lake access, top-tier schools, and a community that genuinely invests in youth programming makes it one of Oregon's premier family destinations.

Lake Oswego is the kind of community that shows up in "best places to raise kids" lists for good reason. The lake is real and accessible, the school system is exceptional, and the community invests in youth programming at a level that belies its size.

Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation Youth Programs

The city's Parks & Rec department runs an unusually comprehensive youth program portfolio — swim lessons at the public pool, tennis clinics, summer day camps, arts classes, and sports leagues. Prices are subsidized and quality is high.

"Lake Oswego's size is its superpower for families — everything is 15 minutes away, everyone knows each other, and the kids run between activities with real independence."

Lake Oswego Swim Club

One of Oregon's premier competitive swim programs. Age-group to senior development, USA Swimming-affiliated. The facility at Luscher Farm is excellent. Recreational lessons through LO Parks also available for beginners.

Luscher Farm Youth Programs

The City's working farm runs seasonal youth programs in agriculture, animal care, and ecology. Kids plant gardens, care for chickens, and harvest vegetables. The fall harvest festival is a community landmark.

Lake Oswego Art Program at George Rogers Park

Community arts studio running ceramics, painting, and mixed media classes in an idyllic park setting on the Willamette River. Adult and youth sessions. Among the most beautiful studio environments in the metro area.

Lake Oswego Junior Basketball and Soccer Leagues

The city's recreational leagues are well-organized with excellent coaching. Small enough that kids get real playing time, large enough for competitive development. Spring and fall sessions.

Tryon Creek State Natural Area

Just north of Lake Oswego in Tualatin Hills. Exceptional family hiking, nature center programs, and one of the most accessible old-growth forest experiences in the Portland metro. Junior naturalist programs on weekends.
